Week 4 - Interview with adolescent, teachers and expert

Updated: Apr 11

During the week, we deepened our understanding of how artificial intelligence may inhibit critical thinking and affect users' trust levels.

We have a natural tendency to trust technology, and in AI worlds the technology is often inaccurate.

The tendency to over-rely on AI can lead us to significant mistakes.

From the literature it appears that there are two systems:

System 1: Automatic. Do not exercise critical thinking.

We are more comfortable with it, we prefer to use it.

System 2: critical thinking. Everything is subject to question, everything is subject to criticism. We prefer to avoid using it, But still when we use technology it is very significant because many times the technology is not accurate.

We found that in teenagers the phenomenon is several times more serious.

In addition, we continued our interviews with teenagers who use artificial intelligence, experts and teachers.

These interviews reinforced for us the magnitude of the problem.

One student said that "from 1 to 10 I believe 10 for the information in chatgpt

It's the computer, it's not something people can edit Like in Wikipedia."

One teacher said that "they do not use artificial intelligence intelligently,

When using artificial intelligence tools, they do not exercise critical thinking."

And one expert enlightened us and said that "we have learned to be skeptical about pictures,

Because we understood what Photoshop is."

The interviews helped us to understand that our problem is a big and real problem that requires a solution.
